The Congress of the People (COPE) in the Blouberg Municipality, Limpopo, removed rotten meat and other expired goods from the shelves of a popular butchery.

Cope councillor Martin Tlouama said they removed rotten chicken and red meat, expired soft drinks, butternuts and viennas from

Roots Butchery which they were allegedly selling to the people.

"We have asked the local municipality to assist us with government vehicles to load and transport all the rotten meat sold in the

Butchery to a dumping site,” Said Tlouamma.

He said they will continue to work closely with the community of Blouberg and make sure this doesn't happen again.

Tlouama said they discovered the butchery during their inspection.

He said they can't allow this since people are not pigs.

He was however pleased because they managed to remove all suspected expired meat.

He went on to say the municipality has kept an eye to the shop and also health inspectors will also assist in this regard.

Roots Butchery spokesperson John de Ponte denied the allegations saying it was only expiring dates that were wrong.
